Can I open a transfer port opening in a piston that is reinforced?
I have a HD Topper AH engine. I have bought new piston and rings and had the cylinder refinished. The piston I bought (and I was told would work) is for what are generally known as HD Hummer 165 cc. And it would work fine for the Topper A engine. The cylinder for the AH has larger ports to include the transfer ports. They are 1 cm wider and there is a reinforcing ridge around each opening. If I open that part of the piston up to accommodate the larger cylinder ports, I have to cut through that ridge. First will that change increase my throughput of gasses and second will cutting that ridge ruin the piston. Is there any way to enlarge that opening withou weakening the skirt? In case you didn't catch it this is a two stroke.
Make/Model/Year: Engine is a '62 Harley Davidson AH 165 cc two stroke.
