DaveP's Reviews

Pilot Power 2CT tires add two-compound technology to the already renowned Pilot Power range. While 2CT technology originated in MotoGP racing, Pilot Power 2CT tires are intended for the most demanding sportbike riders, who use their bikes both on the road and for track days. Its tread surface is divided into three separate areas, incorporating two different rubber compounds. This helps provide numerous benefits in terms of dry grip, lean angle, handling and progressive acceleration and braking on wet surfaces. Track-day tire thats equally at home on the road. Real MotoGP technology from the tire company that introduced dual-compound tires in GP racing. 20% softer rubber mix on the edges of the tread yields phenomenal cornering grip. Lean angles up to 51.2 measured on Michelin test track. Precise handling and feedback. An extension of the Pilot Power line, not a replacement. The Michelin Pilot Power 2CT tires are rated W and up to 168 mph.

Good track day tire
July 11, 2012
"Good track day tire. Stickier than the metzeler M1 or M3. About the same as the Dunlop Q2. Long lasting. The tire has a very soft carcass, so you have to run a lot higher pressure to get peak performance (I ran 34.5psi at the track for the best lap times), which messed with my head and cost me confidence. I prefer the Q2. I ride a 600."

The new Q2 incorporates race-tested advancements that add up to a vastly superior tire equally at home on the street or the track. Radical new profile puts down a bigger footprint at extreme lean angles while also allowing greater lean angles and higher corner speeds to provide substantially better grip and handling. Dunlops advanced Multi-Tread technology combines the benefits of a tough, long-wearing center compound for increased mileage with a special lateral-grip compound on each shoulder for superior cornering traction. New carcass construction includes newly designed continuous hex beads that are both lighter and stronger to enhance steering response in the front tire and increase cornering stability.

Excellent track day tire
July 11, 2012
"Excellent track day tire. Sticky enough to push hard without sliding, but long-lasting enough to last almost an entire season even in the heat. Much stickier than the Metzeler M1 or M3. Runs normal track tire pressures (unlike the Michelin 2CT, for instance), or the new stiff-carcass tires. This is my front tire of choice. I ride a 600."

The new Q2 incorporates race-tested advancements that add up to a vastly superior tire equally at home on the street or the track. Intuitive Response Profile (IRP) technology in the rear tire intuitively allows the rider greater latitude in line choice while cornering and provides amazingly linear steering no matter what shape, speed or camber the corner, and at all lean angles. Radical new profile puts down a bigger footprint at extreme lean angles while also allowing greater lean angles and higher corner speeds to provide substantially better grip and handling. Dunlop's advanced Multi-Tread technology combines the benefits of a tough, long-wearing center compound for increased mileage with a special lateral-grip compound on each shoulder for superior cornering traction. New carcass construction in both the front and rear tires includes newly designed continuous hex beads that are both lighter and stronger to enhance steering response in the front tire and increase cornering stability in both tires. Q2 rear tire features a newly developed, stiffer version of Dunlop's Jointless Band (JLB) construction that utilizes a continuously wound aramid belt for reduced carcass distortion, plus stiffer overall construction to meet high-performance demands and provide a more consistent contact patch.

Good track day tires
July 11, 2012
"Good track day tires. Sticky enough that I can't spin up the rear. The front lasts almost the whole season, while sticking nicely. The rear is done in a few days. (You can get a couple more days out of the Michelin SC2 rears, for example.) I'm using the Q2 front these days. I ride a 600."

Good track day tires
July 11, 2012
"Good track day tires. Sticky and long lasting. The very soft carcass requires higher tire pressures than other tires, though, which costs me a little confidence in the front. Stickier than the Metzeler M1 and M3 (which I can spin up the rear). About as sticky as the Dunlop Q2, but the 2CT's last a little longer. I ride a 600. These days I'm not running this front tire, but I am running the rear."

Hotbodies Racing has brought their precise fit and finish you'd expect into the production of their GP windscreen. The Hotbodies GP windscreen is designed with a dual radius and stand 1 inch taller over stock to continue the aerodynamics your bike was intended for. The taller windscreen will redirect the wind stream further up to seamlessly flow over the rider in a tucked position. Hotbodies uses a pressure and vacuum forming process that gives a more accurate fit to your motorcycle's shape. This technique will make it easy to install this windscreen onto your fairing without modifications. For the best optical clarity Hotbodies uses a high-tech modified acrylic. This remarkable acrylic gives the GP windscreen better impact and scratch resistance while remaining flexible. Hotbodies tops off the GP windscreen with a CNC trim and flame polished edge finish for superior quality.

Not a good choice
July 11, 2012
"I bought this on a close-out sale, cheap. Barely worth it. The windscreen required cutting off some extra tabs to fit my bike, and it still wasn't a very good fit. Material is cheesier than (for example) Zero Gravity, which I'm using now."

The G1370 compound is the G1375 compound on a diet. It has all the great features of the G1375 compound with the exception of the ceramic coated backing plate. It offers very fast heat recovery for more consistent braking which in turn, gives the rider more "feel". These pads are very easy on rotors since they do not have the same levels of metallics in them like many OEM and after market brands. Looking for that perfect brake pad to do those canyon runs? This is it! Very easy on the discs and great heat recovery. Characteristics Sinterized metal. Powerful and progressive braking. No fade effect. Low / Null noise levels. Minimum loss of efficiency when wet. Not aggressive on rotors. Includes two brake pads, enough for one caliper.

Good pads

"Good brake pads. Compound works cold or hot. Very long lasting at the track, compared with other pads I've tried. Easy on the rotors. I ride a 600."

Good track day tire
July 11, 2012
"A good track day tire. Good compromise between stick and durability -- about as sticky as the Dunlop Q2's with a little longer life. I ride a 600. Tire pressures need to be run a little higher than other tires due to the very soft carcass."

Whoops -- my review should have referred to the "Michelin 2CT's", not the SC2.
